Welcome To An Inclusive, Joyful Community That Fosters Self-Discovery
Our Core Values
Fidelity To Montessori
We honor and practice Montessori everywhere in the school by respecting and nurturing the “whole child” through social, intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual development. Montessori-credentialed teachers in multi-age classrooms practice and model Montessori education that is both authentic and innovative.
Diversity & Equity
We are enriched, challenged, and inspired by the diversity in our community. Students, faculty, staff, and parents seek to understand our own identities, recognizing and honoring our differences and commonalities. Through an the ongoing commitment of time, energy, and resources, we work toward a more peaceful world.
Community
We create and sustain an environment of trust, understanding, and inclusivity, where children bring their authentic selves to school. Your child is a meaningful part of a greater whole – in their family, in their multi-age classroom, in their school, in their community, and in the world. Students, faculty, staff, and families are encouraged to extend the respect and interconnectedness they learn in our community throughout their day-to-day lives.
Exploration
We all grow and learn here. Students explore social and academic challenges, working to do their best while taking risks and learning from mistakes; they support and encourage others to do the same. Teachers explore and discover effective approaches to classroom learning, indoors and outdoors. Families explore and share the joys and challenges of parenting.
Sustainability
We preserve and care for the natural world – in our backyard and around the globe. Mindful of our impact on the environment and on the health and livelihood of people, we work to manage our resources responsibly and teach children the importance of living in harmony with nature.
A Leader Called To Treasure Your Child’s Journey
Founder and Director Joyce Moxley began her journey in education more than 30 years ago. She has 2 Master of Education degrees (Elementary Education and Dyslexia Therapy) from Mississippi College. She’s also certified through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards as a Master Early Childhood Educator, and is a certified Academic Language Therapist. In addition to conducting workshops and field consulting, Joyce has served as a consultant for Educational Sounds & Images.
After many years as a traditional public school teacher, Joyce had the opportunity to become a certified Primary and Lower Elementary Montessori educator through the American Montessori Society in New York.
Her passion is to create a high-quality educational atmosphere where students develop to their fullest potential and discover the great joy of learning. Montessori education is a powerful pedagogy that is continuously validated by brain research. It is not a fast-paced, fill-your-head-to-the-brim kind of learning, but one in which the curriculum spirals, embracing the spirit of affirmation, confidence, and joy of learning beyond a traditional curriculum.
Having taught in a public Montessori program, which required teachers to prepare students for tests, Joyce felt strongly that if Montessori teachers were empowered to take care of today, children would be prepared for tomorrow.
She felt called to open an authentic Montessori program in Jackson with a focus on treasuring each age and stage of your child’s journey, to set them up for life.
